Interlude
is a performance staging an off-duty mascot returning to themself after another shift spent entertaining passersby in the area. However, they can’t escape the conditions they find themself in: an audience is present and waiting for something to happen. The space offers a temporary retreat, yet even moments of withdrawal remain shaped by others' gaze. What begins as a pause gradually slips back into performance. Inside the costume, another space emerges—one that shifts between concealment and exposure.

Composed of fragments of rehearsed choreography, performative patterns, lingering moments, frustrations, and more or less shy attempts at connection, the dance oscillates between containment and leakage. The persona, a foolish rat, eventually appears, leading to unscripted movements. While moving through limitations, alternative routes emerge in the negative space, costume, and dance.

In this process, the rat and Julie Carrere found themselves in constant negotiations with each other, spaces they moved through and the assumed expectations of an imaginary audience. This loop ends by being witnessed: connection appears through familiar gestures, a gaze, the sound of a distant song, proximity, the wind coming from the windows.
